The story so far...Part 1

Welcome to my blog! This is my first ever attempt at a blog, so we'll see how it goes...but essentially, I thought that it might be a good idea to start one and document my journey to the USA.

As some of you may know, I'm marrying my wonderful Fiancee Simone and moving to live with her in the USA, pending a Visa approval - no, not a credit card, but a US Entry Visa from the lovely people at the Department of State.

So, by way of background, I thought my first post should be about the story so far...there's a bit to squeeze in, but i'll try and keep it a) As short as possible and b) Mildly entertaining...

Let me set the scene: London, United Kingdom, 11:30pm Friday 29 August 2008. My friend Eddie is visiting from LA, and we're on a weekend out in our nation's capital. We decide to goto Fabric, a famous and popular nightclub (for you oldies, that's a place where it's very dark, has lots of loud music that you would hate, and is packed with herds of young people in various states of inebriation).

Anyway, whilst waiting in line for the Club (which took over 3 hours), the only way of passing the time is to interact with your fellow revellers, and so we struck up conversations with several people in the queue, including a group of American students who had arrived in London a week prior.

Included in this group was a pretty young lady whose name i would forget several times but finally manage to remember by the end of the night; Simone. Although Simone & I did not talk to each other a huge deal, she made enough of an impression on me that I facebooked her on my phone at 7am the next morning to make sure that she and her friends made it home ok. Just to set the context, at 7am Eddie and I were waiting for a tube home from the club, sharing a platform with several fresh and well-groomed Locals who were clearly used to seeing tired, bedraggled youngsters littered around various hotspots during the dawn hours.

After making it back to the hotel and crashing from some much-needed sleep and recouperation (my legs were killing me from all the Michael Jackson-esque shapes I'd been throwing), Eddie & I arose about lunchtime and were determined to see some of the sights. We freshened up, hit the road...and stopped at the first cafe we found for a huge cooked breakfast.

I took the chance to check my facebook...and to my delight, Simone had replied to confirm they all got back safely. After a bit of a chat, we exchanged numbers and agreed to get in touch later that day...and between the British Museum, Oxford Street and Leicester Square, we arranged for Eddie & I to meet up with Simone & her Roommate, Bridget, for drinks later that night.

...to be continued in Part 2...see you then!
